New Lord-Lieutenant of West Midlands Appointed by The King

Following the retirement of Sir John Crabtree, OBE, on August 5th of this year, Dr. Derrick Anderson, CBE, DL, has been appointed as His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for the ceremonial county of the West Midlands.

In his new capacity, Dr. Anderson will serve as the King’s representative in the seven metropolitan districts and boroughs of Birmingham, focusing on the promotion of civic, cultural, and social initiatives within the community.

Covering a population of nearly 3 million, the West Midlands lieutenancy ranks as the second largest in the country.

Expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Dr. Anderson stated, “It is a great privilege to serve as the King’s representative in the West Midlands and to follow in the footsteps of Sir John Crabtree. I am committed to serving both His Majesty the King and supporting the people and organizations of the West Midlands.”

He continued, “I look forward to working with colleagues and partners throughout the County, promoting our diversity and our unity and celebrating our achievements.”

Acknowledging the esteemed service of his predecessor, Dr. Anderson praised Sir John Crabtree’s tireless efforts for the benefit of the West Midlands, noting his significant contributions that have brought immense positivity to the county and its citizens.

Dr. Anderson’s distinguished background includes holding an honorary doctorate for his work on social inclusion and cultural policy, along with his involvement with aid and development organizations in Southern Africa and the Caribbean.”
