Solihull Sixth Form College Celebrates Good Ofsted Rating

Solihull Sixth Form College is basking in the glow of success as it earns a Good rating from Ofsted following a recent inspection.

Inspectors lauded the strides made at Solihull Sixth Form College, particularly in student attendance since their last assessment in 2020, just before the pandemic upheaval.

Their verdict? Standards across all facets of the College, which operates under the Summit Learning Trust, are robust.

Highlighting the caliber of teaching staff, the report states, “teachers are well-qualified and experienced in the subjects they teach,” adding that they “use their expertise to model and demonstrate new knowledge and skills in innovative and interesting ways.”

In addition to academic excellence, the inspectors commended the College’s nurturing environment, affirming that “learners benefit from a positive and supportive learning environment where they develop their character.”

However, the report also points out room for improvement, noting that “in some subjects, a few teachers do not always sufficiently stretch all learners to achieve their best.”

The College currently supports 16 students with educational health care plans, with 12 learners receiving high needs funding. Among its student body of 2,047, 17 learners are studying level 2 GCSE mathematics, while seven are pursuing GCSE English qualifications alongside their primary course of study.

The report brings attention to areas where enhancements are needed, particularly in providing adequate support for learners with high needs to ensure they acquire essential skills outlined in their educational health care plans.

Dr. Martin Sullivan, the College principal, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “I know the College is on a firm upward trajectory. It is gratifying to find that Ofsted agrees with that analysis and rewards all the hard work and dedication of colleagues and learners.”

He emphasized the College’s commitment to achieving excellence, affirming they are “on the right track to achieve that.”
