Jewellery Thief Jailed After £16,000 Crime Spree Across West Midlands

A man who stole more than £16,000 worth of jewellery from shops across the West Midlands has been jailed following a police investigation that linked him to a series of brazen thefts.

Nick Dosanjh, 33, of Simmons Drive, Quinton, used the same tactic across multiple locations: asking to view a gold chain, then fleeing the store without paying.

His spree began on 18 January, when he targeted a jewellers in West Bromwich, asking staff to see a gold chain before running off with it. Later that day, he struck again at another jewellers in Birmingham, escaping with another valuable chain.

Over the following weeks, Dosanjh committed similar offences in Sutton ColdfieldWalsallSolihullBrierley HillWolverhampton, and Smethwick.

His thefts came to an end on 19 May, when he was stopped by traffic officers in Oldbury for driving a Volkswagen Golf without a licence or insurance. A background check revealed he was also wanted in connection with the string of jewellery shop thefts.

At court, Dosanjh was sentenced to two years in prison for nine shop thefts — eight of which involved jewellery stores. He was also fined £300 for the driving offences.

Sgt Paul Bishop from West Bromwich Neighbourhood Team said:

“Dosanjh was a brazen thief who used the same tactics for each of his offences. However, due to good CCTV footage we were able to link him to his crime spree across the West Midlands.”
