Meriden Primary School Closed After Ceiling Collapse

Meriden Church of England Primary School has been closed to pupils after part of a classroom ceiling collapsed earlier this week.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 24, when a section of suspended ceiling tiles fell in an unoccupied classroom. Fortunately, no one was injured.

In response, Solihull Council has temporarily shut the school building to investigate the cause of the collapse and ensure the safety of the premises. The school, located on Fillongley Road, is maintained by the council as the Local Education Authority, which allocates funding to schools based on a set formula.

A council spokesperson said:

“Some suspended ceiling tiles fell from a small section of a classroom at Meriden C of E Primary School on Tuesday whilst the room was vacant.

Whilst we are currently looking into the circumstances that led to this, our top priority is the welfare and education of the children. As a result, we have closed the school building to assess the issue.

Arrangements have been made for children to enjoy outdoor education nearby for the rest of this week. We hope to return children safely back to classrooms very soon and will keep parents updated.”

The council has not yet confirmed when the school will reopen but says it is working quickly to ensure the building is safe for pupils and staff to return.
