Meriden MP Saqib Bhatti has launched a campaign urging for the establishment of a new Accident and Emergency (A&E) department at Solihull Hospital. The initiative comes in response to growing concerns over the inconvenience and challenges faced by constituents in accessing emergency medical services.
In a letter addressed to Health Secretary Victoria, Saqib Bhatti outlined the pressing need for an A&E department within the Solihull borough. Highlighting the current situation where residents are often required to travel to different areas, such as Heartlands Hospital in Bordesley Green, to access A&E services, Bhatti underscored the logistical difficulties and anxiety faced by constituents, particularly those without access to private transportation or with mobility requirements.
With a population exceeding 216,000 and an ageing demographic profile, the necessity for local access to emergency healthcare services is evident, Bhatti said. He emphasised the urgency of the situation, particularly in light of planned housing developments within the borough that are set to further increase the population.
As part of the campaign, Bhatti has launched a petition on his website, inviting residents to express their support for the initiative.
The campaign has garnered early traction, with residents encouraged to sign the petition and lend their voices to the call for improved emergency healthcare provision in the Solihull borough.
As discussions progress, Bhatti remains hopeful for a positive outcome, aiming to secure convenient access to vital emergency medical services for all residents of the Solihull borough.
